Connected
We are all connected. Whether through our actions or on a spiritual level, we are all part of a complex and interconnected ecosystem. If you have been following me for a while, you probably know that human nature and nature itself are my favorite sources of inspiration: reflecting upon the interconnections between us and nature. Our environment shapes us, we depend on it, but we also have an impact on it; a perpetual dance of influences.
So imagine my delight when I received a call to artists for a group show called ‘’Connected’’ that would showcase reflections on the interconnectedness of all life, humans, nature. Reflections on how nature can survive without us, but we can’t survive without it. What a beautifully aligned themed show, I had to apply!
But, with these paintings, I wanted to go beyond the very common catastrophic images associated with environmental messages both in the media and in art. These images, tend to freeze us in our steps while what I wanted, was to explore positive ways to feed reflections and to foster connections between us and nature.
I pondered on the wonder and complexity of our links with nature: with animals, plants, water, land and other human beings. And slowly the three images for the show took form. I reflected on the impact we have through our actions and in exchange how these changes impact us and vice versa.
I noticed how through these connections many unexpected positive outcomes might grow from even the simplest loving gestures.
And I thought about the universal roots and love underlying all life.
Like the other images in my ‘’Human Nature’’ serie, I created anonymous characters, to present with love and sensibility the observations and feelings these reflections fostered in me. They could be the illustrations of a storybook, yet the story is not all written yet. There is space in the image for your own interpretation based on your own experiences and your own views on the subject.
Images are powerful, but I also want these ideas to be reflected in my actions. That’s why they are painted with high quality, eco-friendly materials: from my natural paints, to my choice of papers and local framing from locally sourced FSC wood. Together, one action at a time, we can make a difference.
Did I succeeded in giving you hope and opening up reflections or connections? Which paintings resonate with you, why, what reactions do they spark in you? Feel free to share your thoughts, I always love to hear what you see in my images!
